Shania Twain recently praised Taylor Swift, sharing her thoughts in a new cover story with Haute Living. Twain expressed her struggle with accepting credit for her natural talent, saying, “I wouldn’t say I’m proud of anything I’ve done. Pride isn’t a great word for me because you can’t take credit for creative gifts you’re born with; you can only take credit for developing them. What I am proud of is having the courage to take risks and being hardworking and dedicated.”
She compared herself to Taylor Swift, commending her strong work ethic. “That girl is working her bᴜtt off. She’s living an exhausting life, but she’s dedicated to herself, her art, and her work. It’s not just about ambition, although many would label her ambitious,” Twain remarked.
Twain elaborated, saying, “She’s an incredibly hard worker, and I’m sure she has big goals. But it’s more about passion and committing to that passion. Like Taylor, I was and am someone who does that, and that’s what brings real rewards. I would say my greatest pride comes from my perseverance and not wasting my talents.”
This isn’t the first time Twain has shown support for Swift. In 2022, she congratulated Swift for breaking her long-standing U.S. chart record, stating on social media, “Historical records are meant to be made and then broken. The baton should be passed on to new generations. Unstoppable young female country artists are [flame emoji] despite the challenges.”
Twain’s views on Swift contrast sharply with recent comments made by Courtney Love, who criticized Swift, calling her “not important” and “not interesting as an artist.” In a recent interview with The Standard, Love stated, “Taylor is not important. She might be a safe space for girls and is probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”
