Will Smith remembers his first fatherhood.
The Oscar winner, 55, posted a touching Instagram video on Saturday to commemorate his oldest son Trey Smith’s 31st birthday. He spoke about his son’s birth more than three decades earlier.
With the clip, Will posted a touching caption: “Happy birthday, T-Ball. You gave me some of my best memories,” he said, “You taught me about love! Your eyes showed me God.”
The actor reflected on Trey’s birth before reciting lyrics from his 1997 hit “Just the Two of Us.” Will’s video appeared to be from his 2021 memoir’s audiobook.
On November 11, 1992, Willard Carroll Smith III was born. Since he was the third Willard Smith, we called him Trey from birth “Begin of video.
He then quoted Big Willie Style’s first verse: “I didn’t sleep a wink that night. As I left my bed, I snuck to your crib. My heart melted when I softly touched your head. I knew I loved you more than life. Then I kneeled and begged God. He just needs a good dad. Also love, knowledge, discipline. My life is for you.”

While making the ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ music video, Will Smith realized he wanted to be on camera.
“That’s the public depiction of Trey’s birth and my introduction to fatherhood,” Will said in the video. “But that first night was far more emotionally tumultuous than my poetic verse suggests.”
The actor then said he was “overwhelmed with the immensity” of his job and knelt to plead for help being “a good daddy.”
Would I always serve food and turn on the lights? Would I be strong enough to stop a killer? I’m a boy on my knees at 3 a.m. “I never wanted my dad so much,” Will stated in the clip.
“Then something clicked. In a place where nothing had clicked previously. A choice. Unwavering conviction. I dried my eyes, rose up, and softly caressed Trey’s head “I added. There were just two options: I could be the best father the world had ever seen. Or two, I’d die.”
