The sports and entertainment company TMRW Sports, which was co-founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and former golf television producer Mike McCarley, revealed on Wednesday that it has expanded its investment group to include recording artists Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, Macklemore, Jake Owen, and Darius Rucker. According to a release, the musicians were chosen for the lineup based on their shared love of golf in an effort to increase awareness of the sport through their influence.
According to McCarley, “golf is thriving from a surge in cultural relevance that spans generations and demographic groups,” according to a TMRW Sports statement. “Although these performers have diverse backgrounds and fan groups, they all have a genuine love for golf and can, in their own unique ways, expose the game to new audiences.
“Their addition rounds out the collective expertise and reach of the TMRW Sports investor group across finance, sports business, technology, and media,” he said. “We appreciate their support and their collective one billion social followers will further fuel TMRW Sports’ upcoming projects fusing sports and tech.”
With the most recent acquisitions, TMRW Sports announced that its investor group’s following now surpasses one billion people, referring to them as “cultural icons from music.” The five musicians become part of an investor group that is already comprised of former NBA champions Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal, as well as MLB player Mike Trout.
In addition to F1, professional tennis, professional golf, and other businesses, the investor group has expertise owning teams in all four major North American professional sports leagues.
The TGL golf league, which will begin play in 2024 and is helmed by Woods and McIlroy, is the centerpiece of TMRW Sports’ golf activities. TGL, which was announced in August of last year, is expected to expand the game’s appeal by offering a redesigned strategy in 2022, along with the arrival of LIV Golf and other significant improvements to the golf environment. Six three-man PGA Tour teams will compete in 15 regular-season matches on virtual courses inside specially designed arenas in TGL.
PGA Tour players Adam Scott, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa, and Woods are among those scheduled to compete in the league in addition to McIlroy and Woods. The Monday night primetime PGA Tour schedule will be complemented by the TGL schedule.
